The Electoral Commission says parties wanting to appeal its decision to dismiss objections lodged against candidates contesting the May General Elections have until the April 11 to do so.
Over 50 objections were lodged, but the Electoral Commission of South Africa upheld the PAC’s objection to its own candidate Alton Mphethi, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison, barring him from serving in any legislature. The IEC says anyone who wants to appeal has until Thursday to do so. Earlier, the electoral body released its findings on objections against ten political parties and one candidate, Alton Mpethi was disqualified.
The other objections were dismissed for failing to meet the constitutional and statutory criteria as they relate to unproven allegations.
