STOCK market accounts rose by 11.3 percent to 1.9 million in 2023 from 1.7 million in 2022, boosted by the influx of new accounts made possible by the partnership between the bourse and GCash, the Philippine Stock Exchange said.The PSE said new accounts opened through the GStocksPH platform, launched in 2023, made up 80 percent of last year's total and helped boost online accounts by 21.2 percent to more than 1.5 million as of end-2023.
For total accounts, Luzon investors made up 18.6 percent from 10.7 percent previously; those from the Visayas comprised about 6.6 percent from 3.7 percent; and those from Mindanao accounted for 5.5 percent from 2.5 percent.Overseas accounts eased to 1.0 percent of online accounts from 1.7 percent previously and also declined to 1.1 percent from 1.7 percent for total accounts.Japanese, Chinese and Americans topped the list of overseas investors. The share of Japanese investors surged to 31.
