Here's why big business is giving up its fight against a higher minimum wage

Last month, McDonalds — the most recognizable name in America's lowest-paying industry — announced it would no longer lobby against minimum wage hikes. A few months before that, Amazon proclaimed that it would fully meet activists' demands for a $15-per-hour baseline and that it would throw its considerable lobbying weight behind an increase in the federal floor. Then, just last week, Bank of America outdid them both, setting its own minimum at $20.

For large companies, opposing a hike comes along with bad publicity, which lately just doesn't seem to be worth it for corporate America — especially for those with a consumer-facing brand reputation to maintain. "A number of our members that have substantial retail operations are very concerned about image," said Roger King, senior labor and employment counsel with the HR Policy Association, a trade group of large employers.

Easy they have replaced cashiers with kiosk they have eliminated jobs and replaced a real person with a computer. Pretty soon they will not need cooks either as they will have a conveyor belt and machine making orders.

Bc of competition finally not govt. duh 🙄

Firing employees in place of installed kiosks, raising of product prices, and outsourcing more production is giving up? Appears more like adapting.

So a burger flipper will get paid more than a trained laborers working at a factory. There was a time when laborers would be paid doubled what a fast food worker was paid.

7.25 USD per hour goes up to $15.00 Now the person making $ 15.00 an hour will be asking for $30.00 an hour, the person making $30.00 an hour will ask for $60.00 an Hour, and you think the Happy Meal will stay at $1.00 Hello Robot Burger Makers,ROBOT COOK makes $0.00 per hour.

I don’t care what you make the minimum wage. It will still be the minimum wage and all prices will adjust to it. This will hurt the middle class more than it will help minimum wage earners.

Big business has never wanted a higher minimum wage. That's why they all moved to China and emerging markets.
