The device can take indicative blood pressure readings, alert loved ones if the user has fallen and monitor activity levels

A Nottinghamshire-based domiciliary care provider has become the first company in the UK to trial new personal alarm wristbands. The wristbands were developed for Your Home Care by Intelligent Recording Limited, and whilst the lightweight devices look similar to a smartwatch they don't actually have a display screen.

In addition to this, there is also a geofence function, which when set means if a person goes out of a certain area an alert is sent. These wristbands are also linked to a friends and family app so that a user’s health can be monitored remotely by their loved ones.Another unique part of the device is that through the app, the user can have indicative blood pressure readings taken, and their activity levels can be monitored.

Paul Pitchford, who co-founded Your Home Care with Scott Marsh, said: “This wonderful and unique technology has the potential to be a real asset when ensuring the safety of vulnerable or elderly people in their own homes. They should help give even more confidence to families that the health of their loved ones is being monitored.

A number of these wristbands will be given to Your Home Care clients to use, but there will also be some made available for purchase by members of the public. The funding for the wristbands came from a grant by Digital Notts, which is a partnership of organisations such as councils and health organisations, that are “collectively responsible for improving the health, care and wellbeing” of local people.
