EFF Gauteng chairperson Nkululeko Dunga has been removed as the MMC for Finance in the City of Ekurhuleni.

The African National Congress in the City of Ekurhuleni has welcomed the removal of the Economic Freedom Fighter’s Nkululeko Dunga as MMC of Finance. On Wednesday, the newly-elected City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Xhakaza said he removed Dunga after careful consideration and unforeseen misalignments.

Xhakaza said the decision aims to ensure that the municipality can fast-track the completion and approval of the annual budget. MMC for City Planning and Economic Development Nomadlozi Nkosi will oversee the Finance portfolio for now. Dlozi is the chairperson of both the Governance and Economic Mayoral Cluster and the Budget Steering Committee.

The ANC said the decision was accordingly endorsed following the governance update report, which reportedly pointed to fundamental weaknesses in how the budget process has been handled and the city’s seriously regressing financial position. The ANC said they have long raised this matter with no notable effort to turnaround the dire situation.
