Sky News host Peta Credlin says the 'main victims' of Bill Shorten's promise to reverse cuts to penalty rates 'will be small businesses and their staff'.

The Opposition Leader has vowed to reverse cuts to penalty rates within Labor's first 100 days in office if he's elected in May, as well as put in legislation to prevent the decision from being overturned. Ms Credlin explains how the decisions on penalty rates are handed down by the 'independent industrial umpire', called Fair Work Australia, which was originally set up by Labor.

Creation you are over the top crazy

billshortenmp will not stick with independent umpire Fair Work, set up by labour when it comes to wage increases

You have all fallen for another billshortenmp lie. Liberals didn’t change the penalty rates. The Industrial Relations Commission did. The Pharmacy Guild & Australian Hotels Association engaged Meridian Lawyers to commence proceedings. The commission was set up by Labor.

More bulshit from the liar Peta Credlin. Everyone pays surcharge on the weekends to cover the penalty rates it's called a community agreement. they work we pay extra they get paid extra they are able to live on a good wage it's that simple

Exactly. What does a person who has never run a buisiness or paid an emloyee know about running buisness. billshortenmp we cannot afford him

If small businesses can't afford to pay their workers a liveable wage then their business is unviable. You do not engage in wage theft as a solution.

Weekend and public holidays surcharges will need to be levied on customers to pay for the penalty rates. The term penalty rates is just an anachronism.

'simplistic econ 101 predictions that minimum wage increases necessarily cause job losses don’t always hold true'

If they need to raid workers to stay profitable then capitalist creative destruction should be the appropriate liberal response.

I went out with my wife and are out on Good Friday and was happy to pay the public holiday surcharge. I did check with the an employee as to whether they loading and the reply was they were well looked after

MRobertsQLD If businesses can't afford to pay workers for their work they ought to go out of business. Apprentices are on $11/hour. Retail and hospitality are some of the worst paid industries. You just can't treat people like slaves. Sorry about that.

She really has no idea about economics. The lower income earners spend a greater proportion of income in small business. Cut their income and you directly affect profits in every small business!

It’s like they are incapable of understanding economics. Incapable of learning.

Lying LNP Grubs like Credlin told us that penalty rate cuts would mean more jobs - THAT WAS ANOTHER LIE! ausvotes

MRobertsQLD A double whammy for small business. Reverse cuts to Sunday penalty rates and an immediate increase in minimum wages. Shorten has to be the most misguided politician ever.

Shorten has never run or operated a smalk business. He has no idea what he is doing.

Yep... Like today, owners worked in a lot of stores. Leases force opening and it doesn’t make financial sense to operate with anything other than minimum external staff.

watergate2019 Well old Morticia Credlin would say that and so would all the grubby buisnesses that are probably right now ripping off their workers.

Bullshit, since penalty rates were cut those businesses have gone backwards, taking money out of consumers pockets stops them spending in small businesses... Who knew 🤣

Another lie by Bill which must be called out for what it is! Say anything, even when he knows the fair work commission make the decision... Something he cannot control!

I'm sure Peta can point to the surge in Sunday trading AND employment since penalty rates cut? Can't she?

Well no-cred credlin would

What biased bullshit from the gaslighting Queen

Shorten has never run or operated a small business . He is a union man who probably sees business as the enemy.

At least least the LiberalAus Is trying to keep its promise of keeping wages low. Credit where credit is due. 🤣😂🤣

Credlin once a lib always a lib

What will happen is what is already happening now. Small businesses will shut down weekends and public holidays if family members are unavailable. People need to understand the consequences of making businesses harder to operate.

What is small business? It will not exist under Shifty Bill and the dickhead who will be Treasurer

Bill only cares about Bill and the keys to The Lodge Vote Labor no fair to for Australians

MRobertsQLD I work casual without penalty rates because I want my employer to survive to employ me. I appreciate the work and greatly enjoy it. reality

Small family businesses can have family work weekends and staff on weekdays. No penalty rates needed, simple solution.

My wife owned in small business several years ago, after penalty rates her two employees made more than she did. She finally put off her girls and closed the business.

The victims are the employees who have had wages cut. Businesses that open on weekends either pay properly or shut shop. Penalty rates have been paid for years and small businesses still survived. Oh, if you put a surcharge up I will walk straight out. You pay the penalties not !
