Joel March is alleged to have swiped several deposit boxes loaded with cash from a blue armoured van after leaving it parked on a double yellow line in south London on Tuesday evening.
The cash-in-transit vehicle, emblazoned with G4S logos, reportedly sat unattended in Larkhall Rise, Clapham, for eight hours before police were finally alerted. March, 36, of Rectory Grove, Clapham, was arrested on suspicion of theft in nearby Brixton on Wednesday afternoon and admitted one count of theft by employee at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
He stole £970,000 from the van, although the cash has been recovered and G4S - a major government contractor - said there had been no"material" financial impact from the incident."These incidents are extremely rare in our UK cash business and we are working closely with the Metropolitan Police to resolve the matter," said a spokesman for the security firm.
Seems a little daft doesn't it? Surely security must be tighter with a company like G4S?
