The Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, has attributed the imbalance in the energy market to what he described as the irresponsible and aggressive policies of Western countries.

He stressed that despite huge investments made over the past decades, alternative energy sources fail to displace fossil fuels and snatch a significant share of the global market.

To achieve energy security, he noted, it is necessary to ensure the sufficiency, affordability and reliability of energy sources. He emphasized that over the past decade, western technology giants have worked hard to demonise fossil fuels, shut down power plants and promote unreliable renewable energy even as the growing electricity demand can no longer be met with existing capacity.
