Colin Coleman, head of sub-Saharan Africa at Goldman Sachs Group Inc, is hoping for a big win for the ANC.
“We need to get out of this election a strong mandate for structural reforms,” Coleman said in an interview on Bloomberg Television on Wednesday. Support of 60 percent would give Ramaphosa the “political space to implement his modernisation agenda, including trying to effectively get the state-owned enterprises and a raft of economic reforms firmly in place.”
With South Africans scheduled to vote on May 8, opinion polls are suggesting the ruling ANC will win enough votes to remain in power. The margin of victory, however, is key to determining if Ramaphosa is able to deliver on pledges to revive flagging economic growth, bring rampant corruption under control and address a 27 percent unemployment rate.
Estimates of support for the ANC range from 51 percent to 61 percent, with the opposition Democratic Alliance garnering between 19 percent and 24 percent, according to surveys by polling firms and research institutes. Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters, currently the third-largest party, is seeing support of 11 percent to 14 percent, the polls show.
Were the ANC to reach the 60 percent-mark, “then the market will be very bullish,” Coleman said. Anything below that level would limit Ramaphosa’s ability to make the changes he wants, he said.
Maybe in the short term but long term....not so much
It would, but at what cost of having the ANC in power? The track record of their unprecedented reign speaks a different tale.
It's true. The international opinion formers that define what we pay for the necessary debt for infrastructure and development know a vote for CyrilRamaphosa and the MYANC is a vote for the future.
No,a Coalition should do the trick,Same as in Johannesburg.
Unfortunately for Goldman Sachs and Colin Coleman, we will vote for EFF...

Business Maverick: The spectre of stagflation is haunting South Africa and the alternative is also scarySouth Africa's economy does not have a lot in its favour at the moment. Relatively moderate inflation in recent years has been one of the few bright spots. Even this has been a mixed blessing as it partly stems from subdued demand. This could change soon, with price pressures unrelated to consumption building in the economy. Against the backdrop of anaemic growth and sky-high unemployment, this could unleash the spectre of stagflation. And if prices do remain subdued, it is only because of the dire state of the economy. No clear policy and leadership ! Just corruption from thieving, bent MYANC and CyrilRamaphosa who can’t stop it and won’t! BUSINESS MAVERICK: South Africa is not the only regional economy with a debt problemSouth Africa was not the only economy in the region to suffer a lost decade or ‘nine wasted years’, to quote President Cyril Ramaphosa. In some ways mirroring Pretoria’s trajectory, many African economies have been racking up concerning levels of debt against a backdrop of relatively sluggish growth. Part of this stems from continued reliance on natural resources. The failure to diversify or industrialise is one reason why so much of the past decade has been lost.
