The organisation of farmers, Agri Eastern Cape says the focus on global markets remains a key priority to the sustainability of the sector in the province.
Reflecting on a tough and challenging year for the sector, the agricultural sector in the Eastern Cape remains one the biggest economic drivers for the province. “A lot of challenges out in the agricultural industry with commercial and upcoming farmers it’s not easy. The margins are thin, some of the big problems that we have is traceability in all our products, be it from fruit to meat, the world out there, the export world out there is demanding traceability on everything. People want to know where it came from. It’s harvested and we must work very hard there is lots of work going out in the agricultural world,” says Peter Cloete, Agri EC President.
