Gauteng Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela says despite the budget cut, her department will continue to prioritise key projects such as transport infrastructure development.
Diale-Tlabela tabled her department’s R9.4-billion budget vote for the 2024/25 financial year at the Gauteng Legislature in Johannesburg. She says of this allocation, R2.7-billion will go toward roads infrastructure upgrades, while R3-billion will be for transport operations. She says the Gautrain Management Agency is being allocated R2.2-billion.
“This is a budget that will help us design, construct and maintain the roads in Gauteng as part of our road infrastructure project, as well as transport regulation and transport operations. Out of the R9.4-billion that is allocated, only four percent is allocated to administration and 96 percent goes to service delivery.
It is short, we had a budget cut and we hope the National Treasury will transfer the grants, but still, it will not be able to assist us in all the projects that we are wanting to achieve. There are generally budget cuts throughout the country.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
