Foundations paid homage to the late stalwarts ahead of Women's Day to be held on Friday, August 9.

The Ahmed Kathrada, Sophie and Henry De Bruyn Foundations held commemorative events in Joburg where they visited graves of stalwarts part of the 1965 Women's March.

Civic organisations have called on South Africans to emulate the resilience and courage demonstrated by the women of 1956.The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation alongside the Sophie and Henry De Bruyn Foundation held a commemorative event in Johannesburg to pay respect to the women.Foundations host women’s month commemoration event in Johannesburg“We gather here not to pay homage but come for inspiration, sustenance and allegiance to the values we stood for.

Another adds: “ laid down their lives knowing that they could get arrested or even worse shot at. They stood together irrespective of what ramifications may come after. Now this is even just to lay our respect and tell them That we recognize them.” Meanwhile, Barbara Watson from the Sophie and Henry Foundation and Zarina Motala from the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation say women need to stick together.
