It is alleged that the learners consumed snacks they bought from a spaza shop.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education has called on parents and school governing bodies to monitor what learners eat at school and outside.

Mpumalanga education spokesperson Gerald Sambo says they are concerned about the incidents of food poisoning at their schools. “Currently, the indication that we are getting is that these learners are stable and they are currently receiving the necessary attention. However, we are going to rely on the report that we are going to get from the hospital through the Department of Health that will indicate clearly what caused this.”

“But the allegations that we are getting from school is that there are some learners who bought some snacks from a local spaza shop and they suspect these snacks are the cause of this sickness. These learners range from between 6 and 12.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
