Load shedding has been suspended for over eight months since March 26.

continues to show promising outcomes, with load shedding successfully suspended for over eight months since March 26.

The power utility says this achievement is attributed to ongoing structural enhancements in the coal-fired fleet, which are driving economic growth and bolstering energy security. Eskon’s spokesperson Daphne Mokoena says the recovery plan has resulted in year-on-year diesel savings of over R17 billion which is approximately 71.9% less than the amount spent during the same period last year.

“With the December summer break approaching and many industries shutting down for this period, along with continuous progress in minimising unplanned outages, Eskom is well positioned to increase planned maintenance activities to further improve the reliability of its generation fleet.” Mokoena adds: “With an available generation capacity of 29 128 MW and a peak demand forecast of 25 809 MW for tonight, Eskom remains on track to meet electricity demand. By Monday evening, an additional 2 065 MW is expected to return online.”
