The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) committed to aligning Philippine IT education with industry demands. During the launch of CHEDX 2.0, CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera highlighted the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions, industry leaders, and other stakeholders in shaping the future of IT education.

Merlina Hernando-MalipotThe Commission on Higher Education on Thursday, Dec. 5, vowed to strengthen the partnership between the Information Technology industry and academe to better align the Philippine IT education system with industry demands.“It is our commitment to ensure that graduates of our universities are industry-ready by aligning the curriculum with industry demands,” CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera said during the launch of CHEDX 2.0 at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.

“Hence, we launched CHEDX to bring together the IT-BPM sector and academia to strengthen the reevaluation of IT education to ensure that we produce graduates who meet current industry needs,” he added.Launched last year, CHEDX has become an annual event that seeks to promote curriculum alignment, cultivate industry-ready graduates, and establish partnerships between industries and higher education institutions to reduce the skills gap.

To officially launch CHEDX 2.0, De Vera was accompanied by CHED Commissioner Shirley Agrupis, CHED Executive Director Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines Board of Trustee Member Jonathan de Luzuriaga, University of Southeastern Philippines President Bonifacio G. Gabales Jr., Asia Pacific College President Teresita Medado, and other industry experts.

CHEDX 2.0, a two-day summit that started on Dec. 4, featured a distinguished lineup of experts and thought leaders from the IT industry and higher education sectors who shared their insights and experiences to guide attendees through the complexities of this technological revolution.
