Leading Light Wind, a proposed offshore wind project in New Jersey, has requested another extension on its timeline. The project, a joint venture between Chicago-based Invenergy and New York-based energyRE, was initially granted a pause by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities due to difficulties in securing a blade manufacturer.
While the board lifted the first pause on December 20th, Leading Light requested an additional stay through May 20th, citing ongoing market volatility and supply chain challenges. Despite not explicitly stating a blade manufacturer issue as the reason for the second delay, the project has faced hurdles in finding a suitable turbine supplier since its initial approval in January 2024. GE Vernova, Vestas, and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy were all considered, but ultimately, none proved to be a viable option. The project, which would consist of up to 100 turbines capable of powering 1 million homes, remains committed to moving forward despite these setbacks
