Freight companies have told Newsnight they will refuse boarding to lorries that do not have the right paperwork.

Cross-channel ferry companies have warned of gridlock around British ports, as they confirm they will not allow trucks to board ferries bound for France after a no-deal Brexit, unless they have the right paperwork. Many UK exporters are yet to obtain the proper documentation.Newsnight has spoken to sources at the main freight ferry companies operating in the channel."If a truck doesn't have the right document we cannot board him.

Both companies said the result of this procedure, given many trucks are expected to turn up without the right documentation, was likely to be tailbacks of trucks on the UK side of the channel."For a period of time, for a few weeks and months, we assume the problems will be bigger. There will be more who are not yet accustomed to the paperwork. There will be a learning curve and then we believe it will work much better," said Mr Jakobsen.

"If hauliers don't have documents they won't be allowed to board. This was the rule on 29 March. Those same rules will apply on 31 October," he said. And his Calais counterpart Mr Puissesseau, had pointed to the construction of new customs facilities and vehicle holding pens at the French port, saying"there will be no delay" on the French side., suggested just two minutes of extra check times at UK borders could result in queues extending up to 30 miles from Dover into Kent.two thirds of the relevant UK firms had still not applied

And the same applies for trucks coming from France so guess we can just use air freight for essentials and dover and Calais can just shut down for as long as it takes to sort out , we had no cross channel ferries during the war and survived so get real

BBCPolitics

The BBC blame Jeremy Corbyn.

The ferry companies should hold a one day protest without warning and block all ports to get a glimpse of just how chaotic it could all be with 'no deal'.

this warning is 3 years old....

Here we go again ...

BBCPolitics Told this to my parrot and he said “project fear, project fear, Leave means Leave” so cant see any problem here.

BBCPolitics If they leave the Trade Agreements alone, there should be no problem. It will just be like the Old Common Market. Unfortunately, the technocrats want to enjoy the luxury that comes with the office. How much is the EU parliament and the members costing the tax payers of countries?

BBCPolitics Bloody Remain Fake News!

Can't be Grayling's got it all sorted.he says.

BBCPolitics BBC of course. Claptrap!

More brexit bias from the BBC typical

BBCPolitics Plenty more ports

Now let me get this right. Brexit means shortages according to Remain yet surely shortages means less lorries you can’t have it both ways 🤔

Typical BBC, don't let reality get in the way of biased propaganda!

BBCPolitics Not again, change the bloody record !

Let’s hope so toooooooo many foreign lorries on our roads. We need to buy British.

Ah! The BBC. The Brussels Broadcasting Corporation!

BBCPolitics But sure can they not introduce technology and drive straight on and off the ferries or is that just crap that they have been peddling?

BBCPolitics Diesel !!!! Blame diesel

BBCPolitics Yawn. If it's too big for them send it via tunnel. 😉

STOP TRADING WITH THE EU AND THERE WILL BE NO PROBLEM, THE WORLD HAS MUCH MORE TRADE

BBCPolitics In 2019 a flotilla of small boats crossed the Channel. Each one picked up a BMW, a VW, a Citroen, Renault or Peugeot and dropped it in the middle of the sea. BBC reporters were hiding under their desks after Broadcasting House was being stormed by irate Licence Payers. Fake News?

This will be fault of the exporters if they do not have the paperwork. Simple fix, so the paperwork!!! Is this the BBC scaremongering again?

BBCPolitics More FakeNews from the unbiased BBC.

BBCPolitics Full employment for the dock workers, a chance to build more Ferries. More jobs for HM Revenue and Customs service. Win Win Win Win. Thanks BBC News.

Surely the ferry companies just need to believe a bit more, have a bit more optimism, and all of the legal issues will just go away though?

The clueless ‘project fear’ planks in this thread, thicker than a submarine door. All of them.

BBCPolitics Ireland is also impacted by such delays at British ports due to the landbridge...

BBCPolitics Rotters, how can they contradict the great BorisJohnson , who tells us that positive thinking will make everything work like a Swiss clock. Clearly a cabal of disbelievers .

Here we go again....ive missed this xxxx

Bullshit. Project fear again

While the BBC was spending licence payers money on a theory that extra waiting times would produce huge queues did they ask what proportion of these lorries are EU registered returning to Europe or EU registered in transit from Ireland?

😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂

🙈🙉🙊

Scaremongering full stop

Old news. They told us this last year. If they know that it might cause issues they’ve now had extra time to find solutions and get a grip on it. Haven’t they! You know if it’s a slow news day, don’t keep pushing out the same stuff all the time. It gets boring.

Just shut up BBC and keep picking on your favourite yank.

What IS disturbing is that there are still people out there that believe is a serious news outlet.

😴😴😴

Then it will be in everyone’s interests to agree a deal pretty quickly once we’re out. No-deal doesn’t mean no deal forever. It means no deal at the time we leave. When the real negotiations begin, not the pretend ones.

Still 4 months to get the paperwork then 😒

Sorry,we don't buy this scaremongering anymore. Been there, done that.

Would this be like the gridlocks we've been experiencing every few months for the last decade or so?

The French, Spanish & Germans will get really pissed off being queued up on the continent with Lorries full goods....

'ProjectFear' comments in 3 2 1

Never happy

'Project Fear!' 'Have you read the article?' 'Biased BBC!' 'Have you read the article though?' 'Don't need to!' 'But...' 'Project Fear!' 🙄

No shit

Funny how the first border check at Dover is French. If they don’t get past that they cannot proceed to the UK one AND then on to the check in booths of either P&O or DFDS.

Don't worry too much. We were warned of a huge leap in unemployment and lack of wage growth. Have they happened? No.

Zzzzzzzzz

W1A 1AA = HQ for project fear.

Yawn. We've heard the Project Fear rubbish so many times and yet the BBC still think it is going to work. Dunces.

Really? The UK has loads of disused ports + even with the current ports, we are talking about our dealings with 27 countries! If we can deal with the rest of the 180 odd countries out there without gridlock, then why would 27 more cause gridlock?! Scaremongering clap trap imo!

Oh do give over BBC. Enough now.

Cool dude we can sit and talk while were in the queue

yawn

If there is a vowel in the day there will be another 'no-deal' scare story from Al-JaBeeba

Project Fear...

Right on time, the daily fake anti-brexit hysteria from the biased BBC.

Easy solution::: Send them to the lorry park in manston and get the paperwork correct there! brexitparty_uk bbcsoutheast

Once again it starts ..if you cannot organise it get out of the business...project fear 3

As airlines refuse boarding for passengers who do not have the required documentation, why is this news?
