- U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Monday laid out a plan to hike taxes on big companies with wide pay gaps between executives and rank-and-file workers.
The proposal comes amid increased scrutiny of income inequality and top executives' pay as a contributing factor. A Securities and Exchange Commission rule adopted in 2015 now requires companies disclose CEO pay ratios. If Sanders' plan had been in place last year, JPMorganChase would have paid up to $991.6 million more in taxes, Sanders' campaign said in the statement. Walmart Inc would have paid up to $793.8 million more and McDonald's Corp would have paid up to $110.9 million more.

Bernie Sanders wants to increase taxes on companies that pay CEOs far more than workers' median salariesThe Vermont senator's proposal, unveiled Monday, would raise taxes 0.5 percentage points on companies paying top executives more than 50 times the median salaries of workers. Cap CEO salaries. None of them deserve tens of millions per year. They are the reason pensions no longer exist and people can't make a living wage. No CEO should make over 40 times more than their lowest paid employee. American people listen to him and all the Democrat 2020 candidates they are going to tax you to death to help only a few. The middle class will hurt the most. He admits the pain will be there. Thank you bernie for the warning Trump2020
