amaBhungane: Fleet company that paid Malema fails to deliver on Joburg contract By Micah Reddy, Stefaans Brümmer and Sam Sole for amaBhungane

The city selected Afrirent in October last year to provide much of its vehicular service delivery backbone – without a competitive bid. The deviation from procedure came after an initial tender process was beset by delays and eventually cancelled.

On November 13 this year – just over a year into the contract – the city told us it had received 1,555 vehicles from Afrirent. This was still only 56% of the requirement. Approached for comment last month, an Absa spokesperson did not deny that the bank had declined a R1-billion mooted credit facility to Afrirent, but said: “We do not take financing decisions merely on the basis of newspaper articles.”

A legal opinion from April this year agreed with the decision to cancel the initial tender, but said the subsequent use of Regulation 32 was not the best option open to the city. The opinion was commissioned by the city’s forensic and investigations service. City records show that when Avis’s old contract was extended from November 2018 to January 2019 to allow time for Afrirent to bring in its vehicles, the city was to pay Avis R28.6-million a month to keep providing the same service.

Oh, new week...same old ish... prepaid journos

Malema is said to have been paid millions by someone who got 16 million and this company pays 500000 from a billion something doesn't add up.

The nation will ignore you even if you report that Julius_S_Malema has raped a 72-year-old granny or a two months old baby because you've now become a comedian group of journalists...

Who's funding amaBhungane ?

Ungenaphi Malema?

Obsessed with Malema neh...?

How BBBEE only favour the rich black elite and then they don’t even deliver. Don’t see any reason why city of JHB residents should fund these crooks with rates and taxes any longer since they only squander the money. Herman is also to blame here...

SA politicians rotten to the core, voters please open your eyes

SamSoleZA I don’t understand how a tender for 30 months lease will not be more expensive than a tender for 60 months? The longer the term, the cheaper the monthly rental. COJ tender has always been 60 months not 30 months.

News room of the EFF

I don't even bother to read your insinuations rubbish. No more journalists. There is Christian organization that wants to kill us no one is report about.

SamSoleZA Without Malema this useless journalists will go hungry... It keeps food on the table to write about Malema and EFF. Without these two you know and we know!!!

SamSoleZA rubbish 💩journalist
