Federal criminal investigators are looking into an Avon man's business dealings with a marijuana company based in Michigan, court records say.CLEVELAND, Ohio— An Avon man is the focus of a federal criminal investigation in Michigan tied to his role in a marijuana business that authorities said swindled investors out of some $14 million.

The U.S. attorney in western Michigan is handling the criminal investigation, according to a sworn statement filed by Williams’ attorney, Edmond Searby. Searby on Monday asked U.S. District Judge Bridget Brennan in Cleveland to halt proceedings in the SEC lawsuit to allow the criminal investigation to proceed.

The SEC’s lawsuit said Swaffer started the company in 2016 and took cash from at least 75 investors to grow marijuana and sell it commercially.
