The beauty of art meets the wellness of mind in mural art renderings located throughout the city as part of a $100,000 Murals with Meaning initiative.
The Johnsons have since dedicated themselves to leading the charge to break down the stigma of mental illness. The goals are to leverage an ounce of prevention, raise awareness and facilitate early identification and treatment. In the same year, the Jacksonville City Council approved legislation for the organization to receive $200,000 for projects that include a marketing campaign, speaking engagements and other community events.
The 80 x 20 work is titled,"Generations" and was created by Ramses Allen and Corey Kreisel. It depicts a sprawling majestic tree and storybook scene featuring children reading and playing.The Johnsons ran into barriers to care when they sought mental health assistance for Alex. They said they found few treatment avenues or information on where to go to receive the appropriate care for their son.
