Daniel McConnell is the current Newsbrands Ireland national journalist of the year and political journalist of the year

McConnell, a native of Stillorgan in Co Dublin, has been political editor of the Irish Examiner since 2015, and is the current Newsbrands Ireland national journalist of the year and political journalist of the year.

His 2016 book Hell At the Gates, published by Mercier Press, covered the downfall of the Brian Cowen government and was a national best seller. A regular commentator on Irish television and radio, he has also served as a stand-in presenter on Today FM’s Last Word with Matt Cooper.
