Texas consumers sign on to lawsuit to stop Kroger-Albertsons merger

. The lawsuit adds that the two collectively control 36 percent of the U.S. super market by sales as of 2020. The next largest chain is Netherlands-based Ahold Delhaize, which controlled 9.2 percent of market share in 2020 according to the lawsuit's data.

"If Kroger’s proposed acquisition of Albertsons is consummated, the companies’ combined power will be used to increase prices for groceries, decrease the quality of food, eliminate jobs, close stores and offer less choice for consumers due to the overlap in geographic areas," the lawsuit argues.
