"I remember a few years ago, we went into the College of the North Atlantic and we did a session. We were doing the usual, here's Inmarsat or whatever, and we said, 'Well, we're going to show you a video clip here of our recent launch.' It was like all of a sudden, the entire room just shifted. It was like, 'Wow. OK.

The Newfoundland contingent handles a variety of tasks within the company. There are members of Inmarsat's global finance team in Mount Pearl, billing, the product group, network operations, the chief technology officer group, the human resources team for North America and IT specialists. That staff has educational backgrounds in business, computer science and engineering.

Tim Brown, senior director of cloud and operations, is from Newfoundland and is always surprised by the fact a lot of people are unaware of Inmarsat's presence in the province.
