John Horgan is joining the board of Elk Valley Resources, an enterprise that is in the process of being spun off from Vancouver-based Teck Resources

Former British Columbia premier John Horgan is taking a job in the coal industry, and says he is not worried about the criticism the move may draw.

governments recently. He was also chair of the Council of the Federation, a group of premiers and territorial leaders who were making the case for the federal government to increase health care funding. Mr. Horgan, 64, was premier from 2017 until this past November. He was the first B.C. New Democrat to win two termsMr. Horgan remained an MLA until Friday, when he officially resigned his seat in the B.C. legislature. He represented a Victoria-area riding.

In his new role, he said, he will be making sure that the company is meeting its obligations to workers, to First Nations, to the environment and to shareholders. Some investors are increasingly concerned about greenhouse-gas emissions from coal. Late last year, the International Energy Agency said global coal consumption was set to rise to an all-time high in 2022, and remain at those levels unless stronger efforts were made to move to a low-carbon economy.

The immorality of the left continues to amaze me.

Environmental until it does not fit your personal agenda while everyone else is paying the price for your charade. FFS

What a goddamn embarrassment...! I am absolutely convinced Horgan is a plant.. Just like Bob Rae was..! Horgan goes against every NDP principle.. He has proven that time and time again.. Horgan is a NDP discrediting plant..

First reaction is ‘ouch’. Second reaction is that we need people with first hand climate change experience to join some of the remaining fossil fuel boards. Perhaps the former Premier can make a difference. We’ll see. cdnpoli

Man, this is not the Horgan arc I was expecting. Disappointing. No different than the rest of the shills. Revolving door of corruption from government to industry.

Coal?

No words campaigned against this as his role in NDP Now campaigns for Coal Industry canada WakeUp

The NDP sent him in to destroy this company did they?

Read it! ‘there may be a “knee-jerk” reaction to his move to coal, but he noted there’s a difference between coal used to make electricity and coal used for metallurgy. While there are better ways to generate electricity, he said, there are not yet better ways to make steel.

Congratulations John Horgan Thank you for your service, and your steady leadership through burning hell, high water… and pandemic You led the most stable, responsive, and successful BC Government we’ve had in 50 years! Thank you 🙏🖖

Lol. KingCoal. jjhorgan

I don't know why anyone ever thought the NDP were an environmentalist party. They just looked like environmentalists compared to the BC Liberals (aka Socreds). They're primarily supposed to be a people party focused on jobs that has shifted to where the money is.

Based working class Horgan.

NDP hypocrisy, as usual

'While there are better ways to generate electricity, he said, there are not yet better ways to make steel.'

'While there are better ways to generate electricity, he said, there are not yet better ways to make steel.'

'While there are better ways to generate electricity, he said, there are not yet better ways to make steel.'

WHAT THE EFF

WHAT THE EFF

Did you know you can contain the smoke(carbon)in a sealed environment and reduce it useable fuel with 0 emissions?

Despite what Horgan says, there are ways to make steel without coal, and with lower carbon emissions. A good chunk of existing production uses electric arc furnaces, some use natural gas, and there are lots of pilot projects using green H2 instead.

The rest of the board can now complain directly to him for the extremely high carbon taxes.

Well, now we know why he left BC in such dumpster fire of a mess. He screwed this province over.

Oh, okay.

Jfc

As we have been saying for 5 years under this man: the BC NDP are fossil fuel-soaked conservatives (and not just on energy), and theJagmeetSingh has steadfastly backed Horgan, so the federal party needs to do some soul-searching too. The BC Greens are well to the left of this.

Horgan on his way to do more damage to BC's environment.

Very damaging to credibility of moderate lefts

Teck did not exercise all due diligence to prevent the deposit of coal mine waste rock leachate into the Fording River from settling ponds,' federal prosecutor Alexander Clarkson, reading from an agreed statement of facts, said in BC prov court bcpoli

I'm jaded as shit but good on Horgan, I guess, for reminding me that there are depths of political cynicism yet to be plumbed

Is this an April fools joke? Because if it isn’t, it’s awesome 😂😂😂😂

It's climate friendly coal tho 🤣

And there is your lefty NDP bullshit in a nutshell. These clowns preach the doomsday climate hysteria but they know that’s propaganda for the rubes and they act accordingly.

Christ is there a politician who can’t be bought?

Happy AprilFoolsDay2023 ?

How ironically perfect! You can’t make this up. jkenney ABDanielleSmith - you should have shut off the Trans Mountain pipeline when you had the chance. He is working for a coal company that RachelNotley wish she could have killed in Alberta. WTF!!!!! abpoli

Hippocrite

Wasn't this guy all about going green? True colours I guess.

I couldn't have made up a better ending for Horgan as a personification of the 21st century NDP.

BlueBellsForest Is he going to go back to lobbying for casinos too?

Wow the irony and the fraud is unreal

jjhorgan was never a man with much grasp of even the basics of progressive policy. What a failure of leadership.

WWF CanadianGreens Greenpeace DavidSuzukiFDN How the hell do you guys digest this reality? Part of the plan? Part of the big lie? How do support bcndp with their past leader supporting coal? Every one of your organizations is a complete joke buying into this lie. Shame!

Another loathsome leader happily driving us to extinction

PeterKellyBC

Time to make clean coal great again?

bcndp are not champions of the environment.

Lol doesn’t even surprise me he was such a fake climate fighter

That smarmy smug egotistical mofo.

I hope John Horgan rots in hell. He unilaterally destroyed jobs and peoples lives across Western Canada opposing energy - and now this. bcpoli should wake up! It was always about money - for him! bcndp GlobalBC CTVVancouver CBCVancouver VancouverSun CityofVancouver

Lock him up. He betrayed the people of BC and the party. Clear corruption. The NDP/BCNDP must denounce him.

Such a climate champion!

Coal business ! Of course 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

cindyeharnett April Fool's

Normal.

Hahahaha How typical for a member of the NDP to be hypocritical. Just like Jagmeet's Rolexs. They are in it for themselves and what they speak of is only for votes.

No surprise. BC doesn't need a conservative party. It has the NDP.

Of course he does

By the looks of him, he won’t be around long to enjoy access another public funded trough!

WTF?!

Teck wants to get out of the coal business.

Homerificus Teck is one of the most egregious polluters in British Columbia, and have never faced any serious consequences for their crimes. This is part of the reason why.

“new world-class Canadian company” Weird how they always use “world class” as a descriptor They give subsidizies, tax breaks, no-bid contracts to their donors and lobbyists, then get places in a cushy, excessively paying job after leaving politics

what the actual fuck

When I was complaining about government officials getting things they don't give us I meant housing and a living wage not cancer

ah, ol' horgie-boy hits the private sector for a higher paycheck and less drama. classic!

!!

Wasn’t he like seriously ill ?

CanuckHavoc Golden Parachutes in exchange for a political shield. bcndp will be hands off coal for another election cycle.
