While residents in the Bedford and Richmond Heights areas can no longer get surgical or emergency services at closed University Hospitals facilities, they will be able to take healthy cooking classes or learn to beat stress starting this fall.

The former UH Richmond and UH Bedford hospitals will house wellness centers offering nutrition classes, mental health programs, mother and child programs and more, starting this fall.BEDFORD, Ohio —

Work is expected to be finished this summer at both locations, and open houses are scheduled for September, UH said.The Richmond Heights wellness center will include a UH Food for Life Market, where UH patients in need can receive healthy food at no cost, UH said. Other services at both Bedford and Richmond wellness centers will focus on maternal and child health, health education, mental health and career training.

Mental health will be addressed through programs focused on grief, mindfulness and stress reduction. Young people will be able to explore healthcare careers through apprenticeships, internships and workforce programs.
