ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Newfoundland and Labrador government has announced a new innovation challenge in a bid to decarbonize the province’s offshore.

The primary objective of the challenge is to fast-track offshore decarbonization through CCUS and demonstrate the potential for storing externally sourced CO2 in the province’s offshore. These efforts involve two key challenges with the first focusing on carbon storage in active offshore fields, aiming to reduce emissions from existing oil production and fostering collaboration between offshore operators and local educational institutions to share knowledge and build expertise.
