ARITON-With a shout of “Go Purple Cats,” Dale County Schools leaders and Ariton elected officials holding golden shovels officially broke ground on a $4 million construction project on the Ariton School campus Tuesday afternoon.

“If you look behind us, you will see that we’ve run out of room,” said Ariton High School Principal Josh Herring, noting that students are attending classes in every spare space in the existing school. People are also reading… Thirty years ago, there were 315 students at the school that now has a student population of 900. “We have the smallest lunchroom in the district at the Ariton School and we feed the most kids,” Baker said, about the lunchroom that was built in 1980.

“It’s an exciting time to be able to expand our school for our kids’ sake to make sure our kids get the best of everything,” said Herring. “Right now, every spare space is being used and that is a testament to our schools. We have great kids and great parents and people want to be a part of that.
