Surepak employed more than 30 members of staff from its Annesley headquarters

A Nottinghamshire company that employed more than 30 people has stopped trading despite nearly 100 companies being interested in buying it. Surepak Limited entered administration in February after issues including a jump in electricity costs of more than 425%.

Yet in an update on Wednesday , the administrators said the sale process ended up being unsuccessful and the company officially ceased trading on May 10. Surepak had been a supplier to most of the UK's major supermarkets, including M&S and Lidl.Assets including machinery and office equipment will now be sold at auction.

The company then lost two major contracts, first to M&S in September 2022 and then to Morrisons in January 2023. Net profit therefore fell from £301,000 in 2021 to £166,000 in 2022. The administrators will now be working to get as much as possible for those still owed money by the company. 'Preferential creditors', which includes company employees and HMRC, are owed over £370,000 and are expected to be paid in full, according to a statement of affairs prepared in February.
