The South African Weather Service has issued a heatwave warning and the scorching heat is being felt in different parts of the country this weekend.Joburg EMS Spokesperson Xolile Khumalo says, “We caution the residents of Johannesburg to ensure that they stay away from the heat. If you can stay indoors make sure you stay at an air-conditioned place, if you do not have it you can sit outside under shade.”Meanwhile, the City of Johannesburg has embarked on a water safety awareness campaign.
In a recent incident, two women died in the same river while performing a cleansing ritual in January this year.
