Acting Gauteng Premier Kedibone Diale-Tlabela says tests by health officials on the food provided through the school nutrition program at Sonqoba Primary have cleared the department from any wrongdoing.
Diale-Tlabela was speaking during her visit to the family of two pupils from Sonqoba Primary School, who died after allegedly consuming snacks from a local spaza shop and food supplied by the school.“The Department of Health did the investigations in our school nutrition and the results were negative, that it is not it. It is alleged that kids went to different spaza shops to get different things. So, we are also to investigate to make sure we deal with this challenge.
“The boy started having diarrhea and the young girl asked me if I don’t have medication for stomach cramps and I told her I don’t. I don’t know what to say because they did eat snacks from the spaza shop and did eat food supplied at school. I can’t blame anyone because I don’t know what caused their death.
