Nottingham City Council has replaced its finance director after the departure of the man who issued the authority's effective declaration of bankruptcy. Ross Brown was announced as the Labour-run council's finance director in December 2022, joining the authority with a 17-year career in local government behind him.
The strained financial position of the council meant Mr Brown sometimes had a difficult relationship with some councillors. Nottingham City Council's budget meeting in March 2024 saw Mr Brown become visibly angry as one councillor spoke about the sweeping cuts being planned by saying "moral character" was more important than "perceived professionalism."
