The march is aimed at raising awareness about GBV and femicide.

Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, says if men can lead thewill be a thing of the past.

Chikunga joined hands with AmaZulu King Misuzulu KaZwelithini in a Men Unite Against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide march in Durban on Friday.“Our view is that our focus should be on prevention of Gender-Based Violence. Women are experiencing physical violence, financial distress and mental violence. Women are experiencing violence in all forms and men need to be at the forefront. This is an important call to say to men, they must head the call to say, not in their name.

Meanwhile, the founder of the Good Men Foundation which organised the march, Simangaye Xaba says they are currently focusing on educating young men and boys. “It is very important that the research guides us because you will not know where to use your resources. Police have released quarterly stats on crime in South Africa and when it comes to GBV, they always release the 30 hotspots and communities that are battling gender-based violence and homicide.
