A nationally-renowned restaurant is among several businesses that has been affected by an upcoming closure at shared kitchen space in the Victoria Public Market.

Members of the Coho Commissary, which runs a shared commercial kitchen space in the public market, say they were given one month’s notice that the commissary was ending its lease at 1701 Douglas St., leaving vendors scrambling to respond – including Cafe Malabar, an Indian restaurant that was recently named, Cafe Malabar said it was grateful for the support of the community and that it plans to reopen elsewhere next year.

“While we’re saddened to not have more concrete plans in place before this closure, we know this isn’t the end.” “This unexpected change comes as Coho Commissary, the Kitchen Operator, will be leaving the Market at the end of December 2024,” wrote the restaurant in a social media post Wednesday.
