After a slow start to 2024, Ontario's cottage country real estate market is picking up pace in the fall. Realtors expect a strong spring market in 2025 as interest rates continue to decline and frustrated buyers, eager for their summer escapes, finally take the plunge.
Early 2024 saw a lingering impact from the pandemic-fueled cottage craze, with a slight dip in waterfront property sales, possibly around 10%, according to Bonnie Looby, President of OnePoint Association of Realtors and former-President of the Lakelands Association of Realtors. However, the market has stabilized, with prices leveling out. Looby anticipates this trend will encourage both buyers who have been waiting for price drops and sellers who have been patiently anticipating market recovery. Looby, who collaborates with realtors across various cottage regions, has observed a surge in sales since November, particularly in areas like Muskoka Lakes, Parry Sound, and Haliburton.
