'They’re not the only industry that’s having trouble in this. Everybody's got their hand out,' said one transportation consultant.

In the face of sharply reduced demand, domestic carriers already slashed flights by around 40 percent, by some estimates, although reports of fliers traveling on nearly-empty planes abound.

In hindsight, allowing this kind of debt to accrue in the first place probably wasn’t a great idea, Hamlin said. “Three of the big four have considerable debt. During the era of share buybacks, why wasn't some of that paid down?” he said. In its March 21 letter, Airlines for America said that if it was granted the $29 billion it sought in loans, it would limit executive compensation and stop both stock buybacks and dividend issuance for the life of the loans.

Figures here we go again bail out the the big corporations what about the tax cut they should not put into their pockets . Bullshit .

A bailout is necessary because it will be cheaper to bail them out the deal with the consequences of them going under. The bailout needs a lot of oversight and everything needs to be in the open

Why does it need it? Is it still paying its employees? It should be using this time to go over every plane top to bottom to make sure they are safe! I don’t trust airlines!

Does everyone remember after 9/11 when they said if they didn’t get a bailout they’d have to raise prices and/or fire lots of workers, then they got one then charged baggage fees and fired everyone anyway, and their CEOs got huge payouts and bonuses? Anyone? Just me? Ok 👍🏾

Please send us $25B,...because we don't want to touch the $25B we have sitting in the bank. We're saving that for a rainy day.

what exactly are they doing with the billions they have, or had a week or so ago, that they require billions more? Sorry, don't want to see people get let go, go on unemployment, etc,...but give me a f'ing break.

FOR WHAT (COLLATERAL) comes to mind.

Will milk be white?

hopefully, the airline industry will not go under. Most of our international (business) travel would suffer, higher prices, less connections, less options...

And keep employees on the payroll? Yes, loans are conditional on this. You're hiding you support workers, many union, losing their livelihoods to see boeing fail just for a political hit. This is one of many reasons we call you the 'enemy of the people'.

Is that executive salaries and comps for that industry?

As long as the money is spent on safety upgrades and training, and employee benefits. No stock buy backs!

Social security and disability people won’t get help but airline industry will get 25 billon😡

.NBCNews People are dying all around us. I'm too glade for these airlines. 😭 NancyPelosiAmericanHero NancyPelosiAmericanHero NancyPelosiAmericanHero NancyPelosiAmericanHero NancyPelosiAmericanHero NancyPelosiAmericanHero GOP FoxNews FBR

Wow, people are ruthless. I hope so, there are a lot of jobs tied up there, a LOT

Then don’t fly! I like how they label it a bailout. Last I checked loans are loans. That have to be paid back. Small business loans however are said to be forgivin if they follow certain rules.

They should-we need the airlines thousands of jobs depending on them.

Either way they will increase the price they charge for luggage.

They will now start charging for each toilet use
