WASHINGTON - A key U.S. Senate Democrat pushed back on Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s drive to protect employers from coronavirus-related lawsuits when the economy begins to reopen, saying it would be unnecessary if the White House set clearer standards.

McConnell has made a bill protecting employers a top priority as Congress weighs what next steps to take to address a pandemic that has killed more than 71,000 Americans and thrown more than 26 million out of work. Whitehouse, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee that will hold a hearing on liability protection next week, said clear guidance on worker safety would give employers “a strong ‘standard of care’ defense in court” and would “keep people safer, so there weren’t lawsuits in the first place.”

But as the debate in Congress gains momentum, emerging signs suggest that those opposed to blanket protections for companies could accept some form of narrow immunity for employers who take the proper steps to safeguard their workers. On Wednesday, McConnell’s office could offer no guidance on how he might address the issue of safety standards.

a lawsuit against a company for negligence or anything takes over 18 months. Then is cost a money. The company will surely fire you so your unemployed. While they will have a good law firm. Then they will appeal it. Business doesn't need more protection.

Protect insurers from claims due to War Act clause.

He always looks like he somehow escaped after the Ark of the Covenant melted his face halfway.

Надеюсь,что это правда

Anyone can sue anyone, but an employer who has taken reasonable steps to protect its employees already has its lawsuit protection — absence of negligence.

That worked really well for Monsanto.

No! Irresponsible & criminally negligent business owners must be held to account. Forcing workers into unsafe working conditions is currently subject to civil and criminal penalties; this is NO different when guidelines and reasonable protective measures are not implemented.

Let the states fail Let the banks fail Let the automakers fail Let the housing market fail Get rid of Trump's bitch Mitch

Now you see why me and few or my friends switched over to the R.

America has witnessed the biggest economic downfall since 1930 Latest updates | cases per million population👇 coronavirus Covid_19

Don't ever be fooled that politicians like MitchMcConnell are representing the interests of folks living in their states or the rest of the US; this man seeks to help the corporations which fund his campaigns and comfortable lifestyle. This is abhorrent and dishonest behavior.

If only Republicans cared as much about people as they do about businesses

Moscow Mitch’s got to go!

lol The entire purpose of the bill is to protect businesses from frivolous lawsuits. We need loser pays tort reform, bad. Cuomo did it for nursing homes. Don't want to talk about that though.

When will the GOP start to protect the people. GOP bought and paid for by elitist CEOs. Our tax dollars, OUR tax money going into these CEOs bank accounts. America's debt is corporate America's doing. Corrupt Moscow Mich and friends need to go! No more!

Gosh. I wonder why Democrats don't want to get rid of frivolous lawsuits ? huh

Republicans are also fighting to preserve regular Americans rights to poverty and hunger.
