Microsoft consolidating the video game industry is bad for everyone

, skipping PS5 entirely. Spencer’s comments make it clear that Xbox is eyeing exclusivity for its franchises, and after today’s $69 billion deal goes through, that’s going to include Activision Blizzard games.Activision Blizzard is the largest third-party publisher in gaming, and it’s the owner of massive franchises including Call of Duty, Overwatch, Diablo, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone and Candy Crush.

Let’s take Call of Duty, a series with predictable annual installments, for example. Over the years, Activision has shifted allegiances between Microsoft and Sony, offering early access and exclusive game modes to Xbox platforms, then PlayStation, and mixing it up along the way. Among all the backroom talks, bad blood and better offers, it’s always been up to Activision to cut the best deal for Call of Duty, console holders be damned.

It's not bad for everyone. Microsoft also isn't receiving 'confused' responses. The only people pissed about this acquisition are the same people that were pissed about the Bethesda grab..... Sony Ponies. Microsoft is buying IP and talent. Sony has been doing that too. 🤦‍♂️

Sony can consolidate Tencent can consolidate Microsoft cannot consolidate. press is garbage Chief117Br

I predict want to play COD you will need an Xbox. Want to buy the disc version. No you will have to subscribe to our services.

Still inconclusive. There's no a 100% sure will go to what you think they will

Sony has been buying studios for games and me and you didn't see anything wrong with that for years? Microsoft is still playing catch up

Stfu I have gamepass ultimate

I might agree if they weren't acquiring the big companies that had mostly been wasting their big IPs and just sitting back and enjoying easy microtransaction profits.

They're funding it, acquisitions promote growth

Totally disagree. Activision/Blizzard had lost there way. Microsoft will remedy that and games will be better for it.

Rrrrrrriiiiight. Activision and Bethesda, just the shining beacons of industry standards, snuffed out by the company who invented Game Pass. Evil Microsoft. I’ll take a monopoly over what we have, these companies deserve to be gone, not saved.

Bad take

Won't they still be considered smaller than tencent and sony after the buyout... 🤔

I dunno ,ight put them in a great position for the metaverse and good stock gains.

had to be said

Yes because leaving activision as it is is such a great thing to do, stop with the flame bait articles it’s embarrassing. Activision will flourish under Phil which is good for everyone

Doesn't sound like it's bad for XboxGamePass and XboxGamePassPC subscribers.

👀🤔😂🤣

Engadget has been ripping Activision Blizzard for past year. MS is trying to fix this flaming 💩

Lol. If Google does it Engadget would be happy

Somebody only has a playstation lol

Yeah, that’s what they said about Activision, turns out they were absolutely correct. But that’s how it always goes.

Ahhh yes, remember those Verizon disclaimers lol
