Industry Minister Ed Husic will on Tuesday make the first public pitch to investment bankers, venture capitalists and private equity firms to work with the $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund.

– Mr Husic will tell investors that the Albanese government wants to revitalise domestic manufacturing while also creating opportunities for co-investors to make good returns on their financing.“The pandemic underlined that our manufacturers – once the pride of the nation – were finding it difficult to be competitive globally. Especially, when it comes to innovation and technology,” Mr Husic will tell attendees at an investment conference in Sydney hosted by Swiss investment bank UBS.

The fund will be seeded by contributions from government, industry and super funds and would operate in a similar fashion to the $10 billion Clean Energy Finance Corporation, which Labor established when last in government to encourage the development of low emissions energy sources. Areas deemed critical for the future of the country and economy, such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics and software development will beUp to $3 billion will also be allocated to help fund Labor’s Powering Australia Plan –
