About 12,000 homes will be forced from the short-term lettings market under new rules that will introduce sanctions for those who fail to comply, Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin has said

All short-term and holiday lettings will be required to register with Fáilte Ireland via an online portal that will confirm whether they have the necessary planning permissions. The tourism body has estimated the measure will take 12,000 full-unit properties – meaning houses or apartments – out of short-term platforms.

In her speech, Ms Martin said the Green Party in Government had “remained focused on the urgent action needed to tackle climate change and to protect our natural world”. She said she was “delighted” to welcome back Green Party TDs Patrick Costello and Neasa Hourigan who were readmitted to the party after a six-month suspension for voting against the Government.

The mouth on that . I won't listen to one fking word out of these back stabbing brds

Wow jumping thru hoops for vonderleyen and the EU overlords. Still refuse to acknowledge or help the 11,000 homeless Irish families!!! MichealMartinTD LeoVaradkar simoncoveney EamonRyan

So with all the hotels gone and now the short term let’s gone, is that the end of incoming tourism for a few years ?

So why haven’t you done this before? Your party conference is not an appropriate setting for the announcement of legislative changes no matter how worthy.

More of the same interference in the market that's driven thousands of landlords and thousands of rental properties from the market.

Horse manure The government will not force anyone to do anything

Keep penalising all these private home owners because the govt is not doing its job

.. and this from the Minister for Tourism ..?

So blatant about their wanting to steal your property ' for the greater good'

She speaks with a crooked mouth.

Let's just close the tourism & hospitality industry. First you took away the hotel beds, now you want to take away 12,000 short term lets.

The problem is it could force them into the no let market and as usual this coalition makes the housing shortage worse at every turn .

Thousands of vacant properties, so let's target those who have actually done something with them. Which is going to hurt the tourism sector. And the state will just not build social housing.

They are playing a very dangerous role here

Is this to include Airbnb?

Sorry visitors you can’t come to Ireland & spend much needed money because all the hospitality places are full of people that we are paying money to. Hang tight & we’ll be bankrupt again in a few years. Then all the “refugees” will leave & we’ll have plenty space again.

A sure route to no let

Bye bye tourism

Who's fault is this? Putin's? Zelensky's? Well I have news. The Irish have been deprived of housing for a long time before Russia's invasion.

Not a hotel bed to be had. Now they coming for air bnb. Pubs shops cafes restaurants in tourist areas may as well shut up shop.

And they will all magically move into the rental sector and drive down rents. No they wont. For the same reason(s) that they are not already available for longer-term rent. This will do nothing to bring down rents but will damage tourism, especially in smaller towns.

Airbnb and Uber work perfectly fine in the rest of the world but not here, oh no, not it Ireland.

Very Sinister & Chilling move, akin to a FineGael policy. Not at all sure what they want to achieve with this. Adios Airbnb I guess

So now they want control of private property!

What's to stop the owners from just changing from short term lettings to no lettings

I guess these 12,000 will be given to 'refugees'

April 2023 will be Armageddon. Small landlords will be issuing loads of termination notices. Same time if 10% inflation continues builders will shut up shop.

Thanks Comrades

Communism now!

There won’t a single bed left in the country for a tourist.

For the price of EamonRyan €1.5 million house in Clonskeagh, you could sure build a lot of social affordable houses! greenparty_ie

When will they learn that short term letting has key advantages for owners! i.e Regular use & access to their property! It is not an alternative to renting, it is an alternative to the properties under use!! Renting in many cases, is not an acceptable option for such owners!
