Mpho Mukhari from Mamelodi Local & Long Distance Taxi Association told TimesLIVE that fuel price hikes were devastating.
“Things are better now but taxi owners and drivers still get their cars repossessed by banks because they cannot keep up with the expenses. He said many people were drowning in debt and the fuel increase on top of the recent electricity price hike, and rising food prices and interest rates would make it even harder for workers to support their families.
Taxi used to increase every 3-5 years, now it’s every 6 months to a year. It’s rough.
