A Denver oil and gas company hit with a $1.9 million penalty and facing the possible loss of its right to operate in Colorado is suing state regulators.

filed a lawsuit Friday in Denver District Court to appeal a decision by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission that found the company out of compliance with a plan to clean up spills and fix other alleged violations.

The COGCC’s order deprives KPK of its operating revenue, while at the same time it demands the company “complete scores of ongoing remediation projects by mid-summer and pay nearly $2 million in penalties by mid-March,” the company said. In a Feb. 27 hearing, John Jacus, an attorney, representing KPK, asked the COGCC to reconsider the order and to delay the sanctions for six months.

And oil and gas will continue to behave badly until we citizens make it known that we want a healthy environment and will no longer tolerate criminal behavior

Spend the money on cleaning up processes instead of on lawyers! Big gas and oil should have started the improvement process the first time a kid figured out an efficient use for a solar cell!

They want to be able to spill oil without consequences?
