Mary Lou McDonald says many accidental landlords are selling up as they come out of negative equity

“That’s what’s driving the exit from the market and the important thing now is that the State is in a position to intervene and acquire those properties so that when they are being sold, families with young children, older people, single people, do not end up losing the roof over their head.

“I would simply tell Leo Varadkar that first time buyers and those trying to rent are very fearful of the continuance of a Fine Gael-led Government because we have all seen the consequences of that in terms of high property prices and rents that are extortionate right across the country. The Business Post reported that a draft PwC report has warned clients to speed up the sale of assets and investments in their pension pots in order to protect their wealth in advance of Sinn Féin coming to power, with the party riding high in opinion polls.

“We have ongoing engagement with all sections of Irish society including the business community and by that, I mean small businesses, small- and medium-sized enterprises and the large corporate world and what they have been consistently telling me is their biggest challenge now is housing.

Yep, selling up before what little rights I have left are squashed. Whatever damage the present shower of incompetent clowns have done is nothing to what the shinners will do to Investor confidence!

Nothing to do with rocketing house values.. Nope...Definitely not..Has to be the bogey man

🙄

My elderly parents are selling up and the reason SINN FEINS POLICYS !!!

Remind me again who has been in power last 12 years ?.landlords leave for a multiple of reasons and one of them is the very real realisation that property prices are only going to go one way so are getting out at the top .

She is hardly going to agree with the accusation, true and all as it is.

Lol, my landlord said otherwise when he gave me notice to quit Not in government yet and already hurting me

Sinn Fein policy and agenda has definitely driven landlords out of the rental market, Sinn Fein done this with no suggestions to replace landlords, they made a bad situation a lot worse 🤷🏼🤷🏼

They block developments country wide and then threaten landlords with penal taxes forcing them into a Fire sale. If only they had a way to slow Down the economy and get property prices down.

SF need to wake up then…. Tax 52%… no eviction…no control… no brainer but to sell up

They are leaving because our invaders live like disgusting pigs, destroy homes and pay no rent. They are forced to house these animals while decent respectable tenants are out in the cold

All the blow in slobs who sublet and live like pigs must be evicted to make way for decent respectable tenants who know how to maintain a home.

So stupid. They are leaving because it's opportune to do it. Landlords are in it for the money.

Reject all she likes , it’s a fact

U think she going to admit it?

Didn’t SF want a 3 year eviction ban. 100% landlords are leaving because of the crap spouted by SF. 100%

And on, and on, and on it goes… Lock up your landlords…. ….it’s Sinn Fein!!!!👻👻👻 Never in the history of hack-spun hysteria has so much paranoia been published about a centre-left party with policies so compatible with business as usual.

That's like says water isn't wet. Landlords are selling up fast because of possible seizure of property if and when the shinners get into power. From what I also hear, multinational company are putting together exit strategy if they need to implement them in the coming years.

SF have no real plans to tackle the housing crisis, it suits them if this drags on as more chance of getting into government

More Sinn Fein propaganda in the Irish Times. When does it stop?

Black is white. Up is down. No place for criminality in Sinn Fein. Etc.

SF policy on housing is, without doubt, a contributory factor to why LLs sell. I issued NOT 2 weeks ago. The uncertainty of my rights after they get into power was main reason

For an outsider there isn't sufficient insight into the system available to input an informed view, maybe that's the same case with SF
