One academic says it's "terrible" to have tech companies labelling media accounts in the ad hoc and reactionary way Twitter has recently.
The director of the University of Toronto's Knowledge Media Design Institute says inaccurate or overly simplified labels that are devoid of context are at best, ambiguous and at worst, a form of misinformation.
I'm so glad someone took the time to put balance into this report. Did you even look at Twitter's description for the label CBC received?
One that left strongly to the left I bet.
Pronouns in bio = opinion can be disregarded
Why is it so bad to call CBC state funded media when it has over 69% of state funding?
Tech companies are private entities. They should always be able to label accounts how they wish, ad-hoc or otherwise. If the account holder doesnt like it they can close their account. It's that simple.
Does CTV actually believe that the CBC is not funded by taxpayers? That shows how out of touch the media is today. They would rather tell you BS than the truth, just to advance their opinions. News is not about opinions, it is about facts.
Government shouldn’t be owning free media
Just reporting the Truth. Something the Corrupt Canadian Media haven't done in more than a decade.
“Experts say “ lol
You’re next! Lol
Ok then!
So why no coverage or attention to the National Citizen’s Inquiry? nationalcitizensinquiry
Her opinion. Who cares what she does for a living. It shows that they are controlled by government to everyone looking. Any evaluation process would be equally fraught with issues. Woke supporting woke. DefundTheCBC
if you are going to present yourself as a trustable news source then yes they should be able to. sorry not sorry but there's no such thing as news without a bias.
If that’s the truth Why Not?! You want to keep things under wrap?
Media companies shouldn’t be labelling social media in ad hoc ways. Similarly Government shouldn’t be applying the law in ad hoc ways. Similarly Media shouldn’t be changing the definition of words in ad hoc ways.
Truth hurts
“Experts say” is worn out and no we have another “reputable” group - academics? FFS you are disgusting propaganda
Your 'liberals paid us bonuses during the pandemic' label is coming
Can we add 'recent studies show' to every media post?
The people have a right to know what biases and funding might be in place for the media they are supposed to trust. It wouldn't be an issue if you were worried about how bad it would make you look. 🤔
So, are you suggesting we have a public social media platform?
Private media message the individual perspective. Public media message the collective perspective. In Canada, our democracy requires both views. Forcing Canadians to accept only one or the other voice effectively disintegrates the country as we know it.
call the wambulance
If you don't want to be labeled as government sponsored media. Don't take government money as the majority of your funding. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. 👌
Academic? Have the experts expired?
It's just a formality...a verification of what people already know
‘Expert’ has lost its meaning, so going with ‘academic’ now? The trust is so gone no one believes the MSM anymore.
Perhaps tech companies should have to label what country/countries own them. Example: 75% Saudi 15% Russia 5% South Africa
Yes they should. Citizens should be educated on these matters
How much government money did you take, ?
Let’s add the word “Academic” so people know we mean business
Academic. Lol.
Don’t worry about it CTV Twitter is coming for you next
ONE single academic. Not a collective anymore.
