As the cost of travel rises by up to $3000 per family, solo women have eclipsed families as the largest single customer type of one of Australia’s major travel agencies.

Women in their late 40s happy to travel solo have eclipsed families as the biggest single customer type of Flight Centre in Australia, as inflationary pressure and high travel costs put the brakes on overseas family trips., compared with 2019, they have not rebounded as strongly as the female traveller happy to adventure on her own, and with solid savings to fund her trip.

In the post-pandemic travel landscape, Brown exemplifies the “most typical” Australian customer for Flight Centre: A 49-year-old female booking solo travel, usually in-store rather than online. Given 75 per cent of Flight Centre’s in-store sales staff are female, it is a match made in heaven: “A female solo traveller will also tend to spend more in store,” Mr Stark said. “We love them – they’re strong advocates for travel, and for the brand they travel with.”
