The east end restaurant has been a feature of the city since 1928 and has been managed by multiple generations of the Coia family, who insist they are committed to its future success.

The Dennistoun restaurant has been a fixture in the east end since being opened by Carmine and Amalia Coia, Italian immigrants from the small settlement of Filignano, in the Isernia province south of Rome, in 1928. Their son, Nicky Coia, and wife Ena took over in the 1950s before ownership was transferred to Alfredo and Antonia Coia - the third generation of the family to run the business - in the 1980s.

The Glasgow institution celebrated its 90th birthday in 2018 with the milestone recognised by the Scottish Parliament.

The Trade, Investment, and Innovation Minister Ivan McKee also attended the café to present Alfredo and Carlo Coia with a copy of the parliamentary motion.
