A trader with 30 years of experience at the market expressed skepticism about the possibility of its closure, stating it's a situation that has been impending for decades. The City of London Corporation voted to close the market but decided to keep it open until at least 2028. The Corporation has invested £308 million to relocate the market. Dominic Twomey, leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, acknowledged the financial pressures but emphasized commitments to working with the City of London Corporation to develop the Dagenham Dock site for employment
