The City Government of Bacolod has allocated P5 million for the repair of the Central Public Market, which was severely damaged by a fire on December 13, 2024. At least 31 stalls were destroyed in the blaze. City Legal Officer Karol Joseph Chiu announced yesterday that the City Engineer’s Office is currently finalizing the program of works, including the plans and designs for the market's repair.
Chiu also mentioned that efforts are underway to clear the area, allowing repairs to begin as soon as possible. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection , 18 stalls were completely destroyed in the fire, while 13 others sustained damage. City Fire Marshal Superintendent Jenny Mae Masip reported that the fire started at around 2:50 a.m. and caused an estimated P4.752 million in damages.
