"Given this decision, now is the time for leadership to proactively think about their current policies, and resources for LGBT employees that includes bathrooms," Martinez said.
"All gender or gender-neutral bathrooms absolutely improve the quality of life for TGNCB employees," Martinez said. Transgender is an umbrella term for a person whose gender differs from their sex assigned at birth; a nonbinary person is someone who does not identify as exclusively male or female. "You could just take a single stall bathroom that was previously labeled 'men or women,' replace it with an 'all-gender' sign, and feel like you're done," they said. "But we have to go further to make this bathroom, which everyone in the workplace needs and uses, reflect our stated values of diversity, equity, and inclusion."Martinez recommends employees create a document or presentation that outlines why gender-neutral bathrooms are needed for employees.
I am reaching out to members of our ERGs, HR, and executive teams to create a meeting where we could all discuss our current policies and resources for LGBT employees. I'm particularly interested in creating all-gender bathrooms in our workplace. I realize all-gender bathrooms may not be something everyone is familiar with or understand why this is needed, so I would like to begin these conversations.
