I thought I'd save money on food when I moved into a house near a Costco, but moving into the house changed my food expenses in a different way

We spend more money feeding friends now that we have a safe area for people to hang out

We started buying food and drinks each time a guest would come over — and that's where the food expenses started to pile up. Yes, friends often bring a side dish or drinks of their own. But as the hosts, we naturally fell into the habit of providing the main course and/or the beverages, which are typically the two most expensive parts of any backyard get-together.When I saw the numbers we spent on food in the last month, my stomach flipped. I was raised to be frugal and am usually careful with my money.

But after a couple hours, I relaxed. I'm no longer upset I'm spending more on feeding my friends and myself right now, and I've decided not to make strict plans to change my habits, at least not yet.
